VAVA'U is one of the most popular vacation spots in Tonga with a range of adventure activities that include first-class fishing tours, scuba diving, whalewatching and sailing. This cluster of islands in the heart of Tonga provides a safe harbour for yachts and is one of the most important ports of call for yachts in the South Pacific. The main town of Neiafu has a picturesque location.

Accommodation and Activities: Tourists who travel to Vava'u have a wide choice of accommodation. In and around Neiafu one can find backpacker accommodation, fishing lodges, homestays, guesthouses and apartments. The main island has few beaches, but a popular vacation resort and beachfront cottages can be found a short distance by road on 'Utungake. In the offshore islands can be found island resorts, accessible by boat in 5-35 minutes. These are popular for their beaches and tranquil settings. Enjoy fishing, diving, snorkeling and other watersports. Island cruises are popular, visiting landmarks such as Swallows Cave. Neiafu offers shopping, cafes, bars, restaurants, produce market, banks and post office. Take the short (reasonably energetic) hike to the top of Mt Talau for fantastic panoramic views over Neiafu, Port of Refuge and the islands.
Vava'u is a year-round destination so those who only go in whale-watching season often miss out on the calmest seas, the most abundant tropical flowers and fruits ... and great travel deals!
