THE capital of Tonga is Nuku'alofa on the island of Tongatapu. It is a quiet town and easy to get around. There are hotels and guest accommodation along the waterfront or in town. Alternatively there are resorts found in other parts of Tongatapu, especially on the sandy beaches to the west. Offshore there are also a number of small island resorts ranging from budget to deluxe.

- Located on the northern coastline of Tongatapu in Tonga.
- It takes about 15-20 minutes by taxi from the Fua'amotu International Airport to get to town.
- Find modern cafes, restaurants, shops, banks, supermarket, produce market, hotels and lodges.
- Ferry terminals in Nuku'alofa are located on the waterfront, the main one being the Queen Salote Wharf.
- The Royal Palace and the Royal Tombs provide photo opportunities.
- There is an interesting traditional Tongan village cultural centre located at the end of the road past the wharves (heading east).
The main island is quite a small island so it is easy to get around by bike or hire car. There is an Avis Hire Car rental outlet at the International Airport.
The Tongan Visitors Bureau is located on Vuna Road across from the waterfront.
