IN the far north of the Kingdom of Tonga, 483 km (300 miles) from the main island of Tongatapu, lie Niuatoputapu and Niuafo'ou, two small islands known collectively as 'the Niuas'. Unspoiled, tranquil and with beautiful beaches, this is one of the world's remaining paradises in the South Pacific. Accommodation is limited.

Accommodation and Activities: Accommodation is limited but those who make the effort to visit Niuatoputapu will be rewarded by a culturally and geographically wonderful location. Witness traditional Tongan way of life; some of the best woven tapa mats are created here. Enjoy fishing, snorkeling, or cycling or simply relax on the beach! The best beaches are found on the north-west side of the main island as well as on Hunganga. Hike to the central ridge on Niuatoputapu for spectacular views, including the nearby volcano of Tafahi. Niuatoputapu also has a variety of birdlife for those interested in birdwatching.
The island's airport is located to the south of the island. Flights are only once a week via Chathams Pacific Airlines.
